Vietnamese Coastline Hosts Sighting of Whale Shark

Nhat Phong, a local tour guide, reported that he and a group of tourists had a remarkable encounter with a shark during a boat trip to the coral reefs along Bai Dua Beach. The shark sighting occurred on Thursday at 11:45 am.

Phong revealed that the tourists initially spotted the shark’s large fin on the water surface, which got them all excited. They requested the captain to turn the boat around for a closer look. As they approached, they noticed the shark swimming slower and appearing friendly.

Phong and the tour group managed to capture footage of the four-meter shark, marveling at its size and the white spots covering its body. Initially, they mistook it for a whale.

Vo Van Quang, an expert at the Nha Trang Oceanography Institute in Khanh Hoa Province, opined that the animal captured in Phong’s video is likely a whale shark.

While there were previous shark sightings and attacks off the coast of Quy Nhon City from 2009 to 2012, there have been no such incidents reported in the last decade.

The recent shark sighting adds to the marine wildlife sightings in the region, following a whale sighting off the coast of De Gi in Binh Dinh’s Phu Cat District.
