Vietnam Loses 0-9 to Spain in Pre-FIFA Women’s World Cup Friendly
The Spanish women’s football team secured a 2-0 lead in the first half with goals from Alba Redondo and Althenea Castillo. Continuing their dominance in the game, they scored an additional seven goals in the second half, with Hermoso Fuentes, Gonzalez Rodriguez, and Salma Celeste each scoring two goals.
This defeat is a significant setback for the Vietnamese women’s team as they prepare for the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup, which will be co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia from July 20 to August 20.

In their previous three friendlies, under the guidance of Vietnamese head coach Mai Duc Chung, the team lost 0-7 to France, 1-2 to Germany, and 0-2 to New Zealand.
In 2015, under Japanese head coach Norimatsu Takashi, Vietnam suffered a crushing 0-11 defeat to Australia in a friendly match in Sydney.
Following the game against Spain, the Vietnamese women will commence their Group E campaign against the United States on July 22 at 1:00 pm local time in Auckland. They will then face Portugal in Hamilton at 2:30 pm on July 27 and the Netherlands in Dunedin at 2:00 pm on August 1.
This is the first time in the history of Vietnamese football that the women’s team has qualified for a FIFA Women’s World Cup edition.
